Recruitment.

[Ruby]

Becoming more eager by the second, Ruby hurries over to follow Paul, a smile appearing on her face.

"So what would the Training Room be used for?"

Macie dropped back into the t-shirt pocket, whiskers quivering with excitement.

"And, I wonder, am I the only recruit with a pet on-board...?"

Paul did not know how to explain it to make it an image of it. It was a skill that he lacked and needed to refine.

"It is like a weight room, but there are places to spar or practice the use of different weapons. It is all things that you will get to do while you are here."

Paul headed towards a room with music coming out of it.

"You are probably the first person to bring a pet along with you, so I guess that makes you unique among the unique."

Ruby's imagination conjured up the picture of the Training room as Paul explained it - she could see a weight room, with spar circles and weapon-using areas.
She stroked Macie's head as it peeked over the top, noticing the music as they neared.

"Wow, so I'm special in a little way, at least... But not all that special, but that'll be OK. I can't wait to meet the others."

Paul smiled at the girl. There was nothing that got her down or made her have an ego, which was a good trait to have.

"The others are a fine group of teenagers, which reminds me. Some of your teachers may be younger than you. I am not really sure how old that Julian kid is, but they know what they are talking about."

Paul opened a door to the weight room and a blast of music was what greeted him. It was normal for everyone to tune out the rest of the world when they were in here.

"Let's just take a quick look around. My ears cannot really take this music."

Ruby smiled back at Paul as he smiled at her.
The music made her jerk her head back for a second as it reached out harshly to her, but reaching a hand up to her hearing-aid and pushing on a tiny lever soon made it a comfortable level and within a few seconds she was bobbing her head lightly to the tune.

"You can stay where it's comfortable for you, then, I'll take a look around."

She set off, eyes scanning every part of the room, taking in every detail.
When she reached the far wall and had taken in every other detail, she set off at a faster pace back towards the door, turning her hearing-aid back up to it's normal hearing level.

"You said the others were a "fine group of teenagers". I suppose I'll be making friends quickly, then!"

Macie stuck her head out of the pocket and shook it, blinking and obviously glad to be out of the room. Ruby carefully stroked the dark-gray-furred head with a fingertip.

"I'm sorry, Macie. I keep forgetting others' hearing is more sensitive than mine, and your's is even MORE sensitive..."

Paul watched as the girl made her way around the room. He noticed that she had to adjust her hearing aid to compensate for the noise level, and thought that he should have gave her more warning before taking her to this room.

"Next, we shall take a look at the obstacle course, so that you have an idea of what sort of things you will be doing here."

Paul closed the door to the training room tightly and turned down the corridor towards the obstacle course, which was where most of the students practice their morphing ability against the skills of the infamous Kovu.

Ruby followed Paul down the corridor leading to the obstacle Course room, her 'aid focusing back onto his voice as he spoke, still stroking Macie's head with a finger-tip.

"Are we trained how to move with the power we gain in said room?"

Paul looked back at her as she asked her question about the morphing ability training. It was a tricky subject, but he would have to answer.

"The obstacle course can be used for training while in morph, but most of the time it is whatever Kovu wants to do to you. He is pretty much a random guy when it comes to those things."

[Ruby]

Ruby nodded in understanding as Macie climbed back onto her shoulder yet again.

"I seem to know alot of "random" people. So, apart from being "random", what's this Kovu guy like?"

She thought for a moment before thinking of something else to wonder alongside that.

"I suppose he'd have morphing powers as well, right? But then everyone must have a morphing form."

"Yeah, everyone who comes here gets the morphing ability and some training. Its like a general requirement to battle Yeerks nowadays."

Paul thought on the question of what Kovu was like. If there were words to describe what Kovu was exactly, then Paul did not know them.

"Let's just say that he has a weird sense of humor when it comes to training and has no qualms with overdoing it during an exercise, but I guess that is so we know to expect the unexpected."

[Ruby]

Ruby nodded again, listening still.

"Sounds like a fun guy."

She switched back to the other subject.

"So would I get my morphing ability now or later, since this is only the tour...?"

Paul had to think about that for a bit, but his assumption was that the morphing ability would be given to her at her morphing class.

"You are going to have to talk to Julian about that. He is the one who usually gives that out to people."

It was only his job to show the new kid around the place. It would not be right if students were in control of the morphing technology or safe for that matter.

[Ruby]

"I'll wait to meet Julian, then."

Macie dropped back into the pocket, seeming to sense danger or something similar as Ruby smiled with her reply.

Ruby glanced down at the pocket.

"Macie? Something wrong?"

Paul stopped concerned that there might be something wrong, but then he remembered their destination.

"The obstacle course is a good place to run around in morph. There might be someone in there doing that right now."

He did not know if Macie could sense the presence of anyone else on this ship. It was a mystery what any animal really knew.

[Ruby]

"Yeah, that must be it... She seems scared... They're probably being a predator morph of some sort..."

Ruby was still walking, peering down into the pocket at the rodent.

"Macie, no need to worry, there's two humans here, we can hold back a predator!"

She looked back to Paul.

"So anyone could be any kind of animal...?"
