Call me;; Jessica Briggs
I am;; 17 Years
I was born on;; April 3rd
Hometown;;[/u] Chico, California
Face Claim;;[/u] Um... this chick. That's not a wig either, and her eyes are red.
Nationality;; English-American
Languages Spoken;; English, French, Spanish
Description;; She's pretty to say the least. With pure white hair and bright pink eyes, she's odd to look at... but this is her condition. Her mother, an English professor at her hometown's state university, had albinism running in the family. Most people are born with really light blond hair and pale eyes, usually blue or hazel... but for some reason, one the doctors explain as being decidedly rare, young Jessica was born a true-to-life albino. Her eyesight is very poor, so glasses are always worn, and if not, contacts. Sensitive to the sun, she wears her white hair very long and long sleeves are a must. Jess was more than happy to move into the cloudier city of Ottawa, Ontario in Canada. (Here's a picture that's more accurate.) (Not my artwork, used a character creator on DA. Cause I'm lazy.)
Skills;; Cooking, Sketching, First Aid
Personality;;[/u] Some good points about her personality are a good start. Jess is friendly, in that she's careful about what she says, and caring enough to listen to anyone's problems without complaint. With how she wants to become a teacher when she's older, it's a good trait. She loves teaching, actually, and is patient and willing to learn new things. Despite her flaws and the hard times, she's usually found with a smile on her face, be it forced or real.
Surprisingly enough, Jess is self-conscious of her appearance. She takes comments about it quietly, not wanting to bother others with her problems. Bottling up her emotions and stress, this tends to lead to a spontaneous release every now and then. Usually this happens when she's alone, and a good cry is all she needs to get back up onto her horse. It's not totally impossible for this to happen when she's around people though, but not wanting to cry in front of others, it can often come out as anger and frustration.
Other quirks about Jess are her love for animals and art. She's a fantastic sketch artist, with a good sense of anatomy and depth. She's also highly empathic when it comes to animals and people alike. She can be funny at times, and it surprises people when they realize she's just a normal teenager, worried about clothes, dating and passing the next exam.
Bio/History;;[/u] Jessica Mary Briggs was born on a Tuesday, at 6:15AM in Feather River Hospital, just outside of Chico. What, too detailed? Feh.
Jess grew up never really seeing much of her military father. The man had been in and out of the wars all too often, and when he did come home, he only stayed a few days. Such a thing didn't seem to bother her though. Instead, she became so close to her mother, a beautiful blond-haired professor, that many suspected if she ever lost her mother, the poor girl wouldn't come out of whatever state of shock she'd enter.
Jessica was about four years old when it became clear California's sunny weather was too hard on her delicate skin. So both mother and child moved up into Canada, to the capital. It took a year for both to become citizens, and another year for her mother to catch up to the country's different studies... but soon both were well off. Jess was in a private school, and her mother was teaching in the local University. Life was good.
Her father died when she was just seven years old. Shot and killed in Iraq, never to be brought back due to there being not much left of him. Jessica's mother still wears the pendant from their engagement and on occasion, the black widow's veil. She never dated after his death, but Jess never saw her mother overly unhappy after about a year of mourning.
Jess didn't take it too hard, not really knowing her father well enough to care. Instead, her problems came from her mother's depression. She became her mother's caretaker in the woman's time of need, and the only thing that kept her from failing school was sleepless nights and a sudden new addiction to coffee. And no, it didn't stunt her growth.
By the time Jess was sixteen, she was five and a half feet tall, slender, and zit-free. Puberty had been good to her, giving her almost a model's appearance on good days. High-school was hard, being the first time she'd gone to a public mix-gender school. Dating became more important, but difficult. Friends were few and rare, but trusted and close. She joined the swim team, in hopes of an indoor sport being safe enough, and good grades came rolling in.
It wasn't until recently, shortly after her seventeenth birthday, that the yeerks invasion found its way into her life. Her mother became a controller the Monday after a bad church meet, and the strange behavior didn't go unnoticed by the teen. Seeking help, she turned to the Internet. She discovered the Animorphs, and instantly set out in seek of their help. Calling around, it became evident no Animorphs had taken up fort in Canada... would it be up to her to bring them here?
Starting Morphs;;
Land: American Curl (Pure white, blue eyes, animal was originally like this.)
Bug: Gypsy Moth
Other: Mourning Dove
Scene with Parent;;[/u]
It was early Sunday morning when Jess was woken up. Her mother had decided to surprise her with a trip to Church, despite Jess being of Druid faith. It was at the church that they had the fight. "Your father wanted nothing more than to go to church with his little girl, Jessica. How could you make such a sour event out of this!?" Her mother had spat. Sure, she felt bad about it... but the Priest had insulted the teenager's faith. It hurt. Alot.
"I was just defending myself, mom. No big deal, right?"
Her mother stalled. "N-no big deal!? Jessica Mary Briggs, you got us kicked out of your father's church!" Jess could've sworn she shrank a few sizes at how shy she suddenly felt. How could her mother be so angry at her? She'd done nothing wrong! Right?
"Dad wouldn't want me to be bullied by an old man with a hearing complex."
"Maybe not," her mother groaned. "but he'd never want you to call said old man a dirty racist."
Both mother and daughter paused at their car, and Jess grinned. Her mother cracked a smile, and both started laughing. 'That's what I like about my mother...' Jessica thought between laughs. 'She's never angry at me for long, and she's got a wicked sense of humor.' The laughter died down and Jess smiled. "Sorry about that mom. I'll apologize, but I'm not going to Church again... I don't want to be judged by my faith."
"I understand. Now get in the car. We have cookies to bake before I have to work." Her mother hopped in the driver's seat of the black Chevy truck, and Jess got in on the passenger side. "Gingersnaps or shortbread?"
"Gingersnaps!" With that decided, both were on their way home, already forgetting the event that had happened in the church. That day would be the last time Jessica heard her mother's beautiful laugh... the albino girl had no idea of what waited for her come Monday morning, after her mother's dinner party. She had no idea the horrors that awaited her.
Notes;; Albinism in humans is real, if rare. Jessica's hair and eye colors are real. Read here for more information.
