Ok, so this thread is to figure out what role the Andalites played in AE history.
Here is what the official background says:
Now the problem with that, besides for being vague, is that the Andalites as portrayed in the series would never just give away morphing cubes. I admit to perpetuating that plot hole when creating the site.
So here is the first issue to tackle; how many morphing cubes do we actually need?
On AA every faction had one. But there is really no reason to assume we have that many since every faction doesn't need to create its own animorphs. So I suggest we say we have three total; one in New York, one at the Academy and one with Zane. The morphing cube with Zane is to explain how older characters like Jullian, Drake, Aubrey and Dean got their morphing powers in their factions. Instead of each faction having their own, the backstory is Zane gets sent out with one every time a new faction starts (covering Jullian and Drake) and then passes through every six months (covering Aubrey and Dean).
Now that would be a damn annoying system to play in without an academy but since we do have one, it doesn't affect us that much. And if a character ever really wants to start out in a faction it's easy enough to co-opt Zane and say that is when he was visiting since I doubt he would be required elsewhere.
So I suggest only 3 morphing cubes are on Earth, 1 of which we already had. Which only leaves us to explain where the other two came from.
On to issue number two; when did the Andalites arrive on Earth?
So our history extends the covert war until 2005. We can assume then that things didn't escalate to the point of needing more animorphs until 2005 and until then the originals were just plugging away on their own. Somewhere between 2005 and 2008 the Andalites came, saw, and left since April 2008 is as far back as our played history goes even including AA.
Inside this issue is; when did they start making animorphs and who did they make?
Without pinning down when the other original animorphs died (something we could also do if we want) our oldest characters are Seiya, Zane, Mike, Raven (since she features heavily enough into Suji's history that we can say she became a part of AE's history at least up until Suji left Chicago) and Matthias (who was briefly mentioned in a Vegas thread but can be erased if need be). Since there are not that many of them it is easy enough to suppose they were made with, what I'll call for lack of a better term, the original morphing cube. Meaning, nothing needs to be taken from the Andalites nor do they have any reason to feel their tech has been compromised more than they would have already felt.
So some time in there the Andalites arrived into Earth's orbit. When?
Issue 3; What was their agenda?
The Andalites are ruthless and wouldn't fight a losing battle if they felt it was a losing battle. Now we can say they arrived before Earth was obviously going to lose but that still doesn't explain their thinking when they realized Earth was lost.
Just a refresher: when they lost the Hork-Bajir home world they tried to kill the Hork-Bajir. Also, on Leeran, they drew all yeerk forces onto the continent by putting up a weak defense and then blew it up.
I suggest they follow a Leeran strategy here for a few reasons.
1) They are not on Earth in force and the yeerks already had a good handle on hosts by the time they got there so extermination would be difficult and probably ineffectual.
2) We've already established that the yeerks have made Earth their capital so it dovetails nicely with our established history.
3) It could be used later to help explain why the Andalites put up a fight at all or encouraged the humans to do so since that is how they lured the yeerks onto the continent.
So I would propose that the Andalite's over all agenda is to destroy Earth after giving the yeerks enough time to really gather on it.
(As a nice extra that would mean our most important plots, Hoover Dam and Dallas, helped delay yeerk plans but also Andalite plans. Kudos us.)
So the Andalites came (at some point), put up a token resistance to make the yeerks feel like they won, and left the planet to be conquered so they could come back and blow it up.
Last issue; where did Morphing Cube 2 and 3 come from?
If we go with the above history, no way the Andalites left them. So I propose the originals stole them.
For some reason K.A. has Elfangor carrying one in his little fighter. So even if the Andalites don't carry a ton with them, we can definitely say there were at least a few that the originals could have taken.
Who took them and how they were taken doesn't really matter and can even be left to later to play out in an epic background plot if we want. Pertinent question is; do the Andalites know they are gone?
I suggest no, just to make it easier for us.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Here is what the official background says:
Human resistance was overrun all over the world, human military might no match for superior yeerk technology. Even when a few Andalites landed to help with the war effort there were not enough of them to make a difference.
One by one the animorphs themselves died until there were only two left, Cassie and Ax (Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill). When Ax died the Andalites decided to cut their losses and left Earth, promising to return in greater force.
A promise Cassie doubted and so she begged them to leave Earth with at least one last wall of defense, morphing cubes so that she could make more animorphs. They reluctantly released a few into her possession and then they made their escape from an Earth.
