So this doesn't have to be taken as canon if too many people don't want it to be but Drake asked a great question, where are all these people getting their information from? And this scene popped into my head. Takes place the night Suji, Aubrey, Drake and Dean arrived at the Academy.
Fin pressed the end of the stove pipe between his lips, his eyes narrowed in thought. The pipe was the latest in a string of odd pieces that Fin had rescued from the "useless" pile left after everyone had picked over the latest shipment of goods from the outside world. For some reason people sent their odds and ends to the Academy, perhaps because no one was quite sure what they did here or what they would appreciate.
"So what did she say after that?" A girl asked, eyes wide with anticipation and wonder. Fin was surrounded by a gaggle of young adults who were off duty or playing hooky from the tasks they were assigned. In the aftermath of the bug fighter crash and the arrival of Cassie things were a bit hectic and confused, allowing a bit more leeway to escape an unwanted duty here or there. It had led to this gathering of disparate individuals who, at other times, probably would never spend time in each other's company.
Fin rubbed his chin as he continued to appear deep in thought. "Always be prepared," Fin finally answered, looking down at the girl. "Suji was always prepared for any eventuality." The girl nodded with a serious and yet innocent look on her face.
"Well anyway, we were stuck," Fin continued, "he wouldn't help us without my organ," Fin said, putting a protective hand over his stomach even though the controller had wanted his kidney, "and I was talking to Sophie-"
"Is Sophie hot?" Taylor had interrupted his story with this same question every time he'd mentioned a new female name so Fin was used to it by now and answered without really breaking stride.
"Well, she was a snake, but pretty hot for a snake." Fin answered, wondering what Sophie would have looked like-
"A snake?" Taylor asked, so confused that Fin was surprised he'd lived this long.
"You know!" A girl stage whispered as if speaking a scandalous secret, "Nothlit." She said the word with wide eyes, looking around at her fellows as if she were talking about the boogey man.
"Oh," Taylor said to Fin's surprise. He would have bet money the guy didn't know what 'nothlit' meant. "Man, a chick stuck as a snake. That's just, unnatural. Maybe a flower or something." Quincy rolled his eyes at Taylor's logic and he wasn't the only one.
"Tell us more about Drake," a young man interrupted.
"Oh, Drake," Fin said, once again leaning back in his chair, trying to project the air of an aged storyteller. "You know I knew Drake pretty well," Fin said slowly and tried not to laugh as his audiences eyes grew wider.
"How well?" A girl asked in a dreamy voice.
"Well, well enough to know a lot about him," Fin responded, drawing it out. "Do you want to know what his favorite foods are?" As far as Fin knew Drake liked everything so he couldn't go wrong. "Cherries," he said in response to enthusiastic nods. The girl gasped and gripped the boy's hand next to her. 'Cherries' she mouthed if she might forget.
"How do you know all this?" The girl he'd taken to thinking of as Suji2 asked.
"In the factions quarters are pretty tight," Fin replied. "You pretty much spend all your time together."
"Is it like, one big orgy?" Taylor asked, looking excited.
Fin shrugged. "We spend most of our time in these form fitting morph suits, sometimes the suits get dirty, have to take them off. We grow pretty close," Fin answered ambiguously.
"But there is no intra-faction dating right?" Suji2 asked.
"Suji always said you shouldn't date your faction mates." Suji had said no such thing in his hearing but she would say something like that. Suji2 nodded triumphantly. "But, you know, things happen," Fin went on.
"So you were pretty close with...everyone?" Kirk asked in an innocent voice, his eyes anything but.
"You know Kirk," Fin said, turning to him. "We have this unspoken warrior code in the factions. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." For a second everyone just stared at him but then each began to grin as their mind filled in the picture with whatever view of the factions pleased them the most.
"Gotcha," Kirk said with an exaggerated wink, "Don't ask," he said in what he probably thought was a seductive voice, "don't tell." He smoothed out a wrinkle in his shirt and looked as satisfied with himself as a well fed cat.
Fin winked back. "You got it Kirk."
“I can’t believe real heroes are here on the ship,” the girl said with a simpering look on her face.
Fin smiled, thinking of his old faction mates. “Yeah, they’re the real deal.” He paused for a moment, lost in his own memories while the young crew members just watched him. He seemed to become aware of his audience again after a moment and perked up. “So, where was I?”
