Re: Whatever Gets You Through the Night « Reply #5 Today at 12:01am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Outside, a white-tailed deer moved slowly accross the base, cautious, looking for guards or something that looked like a hideout. It was risky, moving like this with a backpack, but she had to have a way to carry her few belongings. Melanie had been given basic directions to get here, but she was unsure actually being here, trying to find her way around. She had done her best to stay out of sight and travel by night because it was safer for the most part.
Now, she was tired and glad to have arrived, despite her disappointment at switching factions yet again. She had looked up to Matt and enjoyed working with him, and had begun to fit in fairly well with her Los Angeles faction-mates. Now, she was starting over for a second time.
She could smell the scents in the air, leading her toward the group's hideout...

Steve had been on patrol for about half his time now. He was swiftly soaring upon the vast thermals rising fromt he desert floor on the wings of the short eared owl. The wind caressed his feathers ever so slightly, making him remember everything he loved about flying. The feeling of being Superman and soaring on your own power, not worrying about falling, and being in tune with nature. Not to mention the awesome eyes and ears the bird possesed. From hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of feet up in the air, Steve could pick out a jackrabbit bounding across the sand and dirt, a lizard scurrying around a cactus, and just about everything else. he was even able to hear parts of the music one of the faction was playing in their room.
Then Robert broke into his thoughts. <<Steve, look!>>Steve felt his head turning back to a part of desert he had just watched. Then he understood what Robert had found. Steve had been so immersed in the joy of the avian that he had momentarily forgotten what he had been supposed to do and therefore he missed the deer bounding across the ground. The deer with a back-pack on.
<<Who goes there?>> Robert thundered from the depths of Steve's mind, from the body of a bird that was a speck in the air from a deer's point of view. It was possible that it was just a normal deer. But just in case, if it didn't respond, it would be detered by one of Steve's latest morphs. The one that could supposedly scare of bears.

Mel froze. She knew she was in trouble if they weren't supposed to be here. Normal deer don't carry backpacks and she must look pretty darn conspicuous. She looked around slowly, trying to determine where the thought-speech had come from. Eventually, she looked toward the sky.
<Uh...not sure where you are...I was...I'm from LA. Well, from Chicago...then Vancouver, then LA. My name's Melanie.>
She didn't see the birds at the moment but she could smell their scents in the air. She couldn't simply demorph out here-too open. But she was going to be glad to rest for a while. <Sorry for surprising you> she said.
