Tyrar stayed along the edges of the sewer. While he had always planned to come down and map them out having to on other’s terms made it even less enjoyable. The smell alone added to his dislike of the situation. He had briefly considered breathing through his mouth but Dexter was not having that. Something about tasting the scent, and that, frankly, did not sound at all enjoyable.
He glanced back over his shoulder, “Are you holding up well?”
<<Uh, try, ‘how are you doing,’ much better. >> Tyrar looked up and to the left and huffed at his host.
<<Just saying, >> Dexter mentally shrugged. He was quiet for a bit before asking, <<Do you know where you’re going dude? >>
<<Yes, >> Tyrar responded quickly.
If he knew Heather at all, she would go deep into the system, possibly getting herself lost in the process. Poor child had the intelligence to relocate herself after Reixk had accidently eaten oatmeal, saving the YPM from her now chatty yeerk. The most ideal situation would have been turning herself over to her fellow members. Unfortunately, the event did not result in a simple ending, a fact he had become accustomed too.

Stevert stood to Dexter's left and behind him, the lithe form of the african wild dog being dwarfed by the human. A couple of other Animorphs were in different morphs, scattered behind him. Steve took in a deep breathe, to try to pick up a scent, but he regretted the decision immediately. He had forgotten how overwhelming the strangely good-smelling sewers could be to the dog.
<<We are holding up as well as can be expected,>> Robert said in response. for this mission, Robert was "sitting" back and relaxing. True, he could have all of Steve's expereinces of mapping out the sewers in LA, but he decided that he'd let Steve do something. Not to mention the fact that he didn't want to be accessing the canine's nose in this place.
<<Let's move out,>> Robert said to all people there, animorphs, humans, and yeerks alike. True, it had been the YPM team to come to him to request help in the search for the YPM member who had isolated herself from society because of a raving yeerk, but it was Robert's faction and the YPM was mostly there in order to best predict Hether's actions and to help narrow down the time it would take to find her.
<<Aye aye mon capitane!>> Steve said in a bad mimicry of Diana's accent. The younger boy set off at a brisk walk, enough to cover ground but also in order to let Dexter keep up with them. <<Do you know about where Heather will be?>> Steve asked the human and yeerk. It was a simnple question, not meant as a joke or anything.

Dexter jumped at Robert’s voice in his head. He’d have to get used to that. Tyrar was one thing, he was used to him. Heck he had a hard time believing people could turn into animals. This coming from the guy with an alien in his head.
“She would most likely head south from here,” Tyrar reasoned as they approached a junction. “The area is not distant but there are more paths and impediments.”
“Thanks for the help by the way,” Dexter added in a lighter voice, “This would take, like, forever otherwise.” He looked down at Stevert and fought the urge to pet his head. Dex missed having pets but he figured the brothers may not be the kind of guys up to having their head touched. That and they kinda had a job to do. There was plenty of time for awkward situations later.

((I'm assuming that Dexter has a light source of some type...?))
<<PHEW! Naturally, Heather would take south. It reeks!>> Steve seriously contemplated demorphing, but the stench of the sewer would only get all over his outfit and he didn't have a flashlight with him. It would be harder to see in the gradually dimming light when only using Dexter's light. So he contented himself with creative complaining while trudging across the concrete and carefully avoiding the slime.
Robert tuned out of Steve's mind, for the most part. He had no desire to experience the smells around them, but he kept a connection to the eyes and ears, so he could see what was happening and listen to the YPM. <<No need to thank us, it is our pleasure to assist our allies in a time of need. Besides, we can't let any other yeerk learn our secrets.>> Rob's logic was blunt, with only a hint of dry humor at the end.
Robert sent out an order to the accompanying Animorphs to scatter and memorize the tunnels. It would be a great asset to map out the underground of Vegas, an idea he had stolen from Matt back in LA. Than he inquired of the human and yeerk beside Steve, <<Have either of you ever been in the sewers before?>>

“Still appreciated,” Dex said switching the flashlight to his other hand. He opened and closed his now free hand to loosen it up. He wasn’t sure who had the death grip, him or Tyrar. Sure he was worried about Heather but Tyrar had been on edge since the day the animorph died.
“Only a couple of times pre slug,” Dexter tapped his head with the flashlight, “Weren’t easy to get up in Flag but one of my friends found one that was loose after a show. Dude it was horrible. Then another time, - well just make sure you don’t stand under those openings in the side of the wall.”
<<You wanna tell ‘em the rest? >> He thought to Tyrar.
<<Not really, >> the YPM responded.
Rolling his eyes Dexter continued, “We’ve used the sewers a couple of times to get away and go under Yeerk noses but it was never something we planned. Tyrar always wants to investigate them but we never got around to it.”

Stevert was not totally sure of what to make of the statements but let it pass. But Steve made sure to avoid the circles in the wall. He could just imagine what could come out of them and he didn't want his fur messed up. That and his nose.
<<So have y'all seen any good movies lately? I hear the yeerks are still running some movie companies up in New York and are actually making pre-war quality shows. I wish they'd do something like the Matrix. Exceot with Hork-Bajir or something. And they could bring Neo back to life! I mean, wouldn't it be awesome to see Neo attack a thousand Hork-Bajir or something with extreme martial arts? And Dracon beams could hit him and he wouldn't die, wow, that'd be way too cool! And then...>> Steve's chatter continued on and on.
And on and on and on. At least ten minutes later, after traversing dark tunnels with only sporatic pinholes of light, Steve stopped talking. <<Done yet?>> Rob said in a way of breaking the silence. Steve nodded his head and Robert asked a quesiton he'd been thinking of for several minutes, while Steve had been contrasting Scary Movie 2 and 3.
<<So...why were the two of you picked to accompany us?>> Robert asked. <<And sorry 'bout my brother. He tends to talk...a lot.>>

“Not really, Tyrar doesn’t like movies and nothing out really’s caught my interest. My taste in flicks is a little,” Dexter gestured trying to figure out the right word, “…anti-authoritarian I guess you could say. Something tells me the Yeerks aren’t really into that sorta thing, but I’d totally see the Matrix thing. Dude, I was let down by the last one, an Easter is defiantly in order for him.”
Tyrar raised an eyebrow at Robert’s comment about Steve, “Obviously you have not had much time around my host. I doubt your brother could agitate me. I would like to believe Dexter has helped me build immunity to the verbose, though I do appreciate the sentiment.”
“As for Heather and Reixk 263,” Tyrar looked up to the left and thought to Dexter, <<I believe you would word it better. >>
<<Really? >> He thought back dryly.
<<No, but this way you will not attempt to correct me. >>
“Fair enough,” Dex shrugged before turning to Stevert, “They were kinda the one of the first friends we got when we moved to Vegas. Tyrar didn’t really wanna socialize but that girl is stubborn. She just marched up and told us we were going to be friends and that was that. They showed us around town and the movers and shakers, mother henning, ya know?” He shrugged, “Guess the higher ups figure she’ll trust us if we’re there when she’s found. Tyrar and I have been in some crazy spots and got of them so that helps.”
After that he avoided looking at the brothers. If things got too bad the YPM probably figured Tyrar could take care of the situation if it got to extreme. Dexter really wanted to find her safe and somewhat sane. He shined the light down one of the adjacent tunnels but saw it shrank it toward the end. She wouldn’t have gone that way. If Reixk regained control in the tight space the Yeerk would freak out and get them trapped. Heather may have been running away but she wasn’t suicidal.

<I don't know...my life is a science fiction movie...I just don't have the interest in it that i used to> Mel put in.
She was morphed cat, although she really wished she weren't at the moment. <This nose and these sewers...yuck> she commented. But it was idea for seeing in the dark tunnels and keeping track of everyone else via scent.
She was mostly quiet for the moment, her normally talkative self still mulling the events of the past few weeks and coming to terms with her situation changing yet again. SHe knew she had to expect it in a war, though. Besides, she wasn't within total thought-speech range anyway;she heard them now only faintly.
The leopard cat's small size was actually a bit frightening in here. She kept getting visions of running into a Taxxon and being eaten in one gulp.
