Jon smiled faintly at the interaction between the two pilots, hazily reminded of the interactions he used to have with his own younger brother. The thought was brief, however, shuffled back to the depths of his memories where he'd rather forget it. "Sounds good then," He murmured, completely oblivious to Adamo's embarrassment and the short glance.
With the pilots following behind, Jon trekked up the stairs after Xander. The ship felt much bigger than it looked from the outside, and was blessedly warmer than he had expected. They were, after all, sitting in the middle of nowhere in Antarctica. Jon perked up at Xander's question, still walking behind him.
"I'm Jon," He said. "They offered to send me down here with Joel, the kid that was rescued with me. I figured why not." If he was going to be part of the Animorphs, he determined that the further away from Tsei's territory he was, the better. "What about you all?" The question was directed to the two pilots as well. Even though they had all spent a goodly amount of time on the same ship on the way here, Jon hadn't engaged in much talking.

“You askin’ how I got here?” Xander glanced at Jon. He clicked his teeth before deciding to answer him, “Mate of mine found out about the recruitments while we were in France. Managed to talk me into agree and flying down to the ass end of the world. Still debating on if it was one of my better ideas.”
He didn’t even know why Conner had thought it was bright idea to send him with the animorphs. If anything he would probably do better than Xander could. Plus the adrenalin junkie would have gotten a major kick out of turning into an animal. Also revealing information, even vague nor important conversation bits was starting to bring out the edge in him. First he’d spilled to Legend, for no apparent reason, where he was from. For a moment it had been comforting to let it off his chest now he wished the weight was still there. Knowledge was power and all that jazz.

"We were born here," Zach said with a straight face, not even glancing at Adamo to get him to play along, assuming he would. Normally Adamo would have kept silent, not exactly playing along but letting Zach believe he was. Zach's jokes were harmless, especially ones like this. But he spoke out this time. "No we weren't, he's joking," he said with a slightly apologetic tone. He didn't know why. He normally wasn't ashamed of Zach but right now he was. Zach heard the tone and glanced at Adamo, slightly hurt and confused but no one who didn't know him would read all that from the brief look. Only Adamo would have been able to tell and he wasn't looking. He was too busy looking at the other recruits. Zach scoffed quietly and dropped back a bit, sagging like a sail that has lost the wind. Adamo continued on, not noticing. "We, well I was born in Miami. Florida that is. Miami, Florida. And my family adopted Zach when he was-" "Five," Zach butt in with a slightly hostile tone. He didn't like to be reminded that the only family he'd ever known was not his by blood. In a world where everyone had lost their family it made him feel one more step removed and alone. Adamo looked glanced at him and that slightly embarrassed look again and Zach felt the unreasonable desire to punch it off of his face. Who saved you! he wanted to yell. He'd never held that over Adamo's head. He was Adamo's brother and that was what family did, they helped each other. But he'd never felt less like Adamo's brother in his life. "You know, I'm actually not hungry," he said shrugging. "I think I'll go take a look at the ship, make sure we didn't take any damage flying through that storm over Brazil." He said it all with an easy smile for the recruits and he turned to go, anger bottled up where no one else would see it. But maybe something about the way his shoulders were set, or something in his voice gave him away because Adamo called out to him. "Are you sure," he asked with a tone that had an equal balance of hope and fear. It was the hope that cut the most. Adamo wanted him gone. Fine, let him have his way. "Yeah," Zach called over his shoulder, not trusting himself to fully turn around again as he continued on down the hallway and disappeared around the corner and back into the hangar bay. Adamo looked after him, worried about whatever had just gone down but a selfish part of him was glad Zach was gone. He could be a bit much sometimes and Adamo often felt like he was ignored when Zach was around. He turned back to Xander and Jon with a shrug. "I guess I'll just bring him something for later," he said, not really offering an explanation for Zach's behavior.

"France, huh." While Jon had traveled nearly everywhere in the U.S., he'd never found himself overseas. It'd been a dream of his, before the invasion had hit Earth. Before he had joined the Sharing, he had been stockpiling extra money in his bank account to take his girlfriend backpacking in Europe. It had never come to anything, as Tsei had emptied Jon's account almost immediately after infesting him.
"Florida's nice," Jon remarked, glancing at the two brothers. Zach seemed to be slightly miffed at Adamo, a cue that Jon didn't quite pick up until Zach started talking about leaving the group. Once the other pilot was gone down the hallway, Jon glanced to Adamo. "Alright." Family business was family business, and even if Jon could sense that something had gone down he wasn't likely to ask about it.
The conversation had slowed down their walking to almost a complete crawl, and Jon shifted his gaze to the empty corridors. "So where is the cafeteria exactly?"

“Yes sir,” he nodded, “never been to Florida, so I’ll take your word for it.”
Xander nodded as Zach walked off then said to Jon, “Mess is at the end of the hall. I think, won’t be the first time I got lost around here. Even with Seiya’s little trick,” he pointed up to the red lights running across the ceiling, “those tubes point the way to every part of the ship that’s got power. If you ever get misplaced, follow one of ‘em, odds are you’ll run into life eventually.”
He sent a glance at Adamo and sighed inwardly. What was it with this ship that made him want to be so loose lipped? Maybe they pumped extra oxygen into the air like they did at casinos. Also what he felt like saying could totally not help the situation, but now he was committed to saying what passed through his head.
“Must be nice have a brother, always wanted a sibling when I was younger. Part because it would’ve been nice to share the attention with. Me mum was what you’d call camera happy. Seriously, couldn’t recognize her at a school function without a lens in her face,” he shuttered at the memory but laughed afterward, “Sure there’s something portable you can take to him.”
